“My 14 year old son and I greatly enjoyed the Nebraska Project presented by the Guitar Festival. ‘Nebraska’ is one of our favorite albums along with Springteens’s ‘Ghost of Tom Joad.’ It was a great evening at the Winter Garden hearing all the songs performed live by such a variety of talented young artists. Thanks again” J. Aden, Florham Park, NJ
Just wanted to send a big “Thank You” to all involved in the recent
Guitar Marathon at the 92nd Street Y. What a wonderful way to warm the
body and soul on such a cold winter’s day! I’m a 51-year-old guitar-playing proofreader in New York City who lives for good music of all kinds. Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly difficult for artists who have a devoted following but do not sell millions of CDs to perform in Manhattan. And the recent demise of The Bottom Line makes this situation even worse. I attended the concert primarily because I’m a big fan of Ed Gerhard’s music. I was originally chagrined to learn that Ed would only be doing four songs at the concert. But after hearing his inspired performance in such a sympathetic environment, along with the other fine artists at the afternoon half of the Marathon, I was more than satisfied! The Kaufman Concert Hall is a marvelous place to hear musiccomfortable and intimate with wonderful acoustics. At most concerts nowadays, the sound technician tries to overwhelm the audience by making the music as loud as possible, and the harsh results ruin the natural acoustics in the
hall as well as the music itself. The sound at the Marathon was so
natural and subtle. What a pleasant surprise! And getting to mingle with
the performers in the lobby, while checking out all the various CDs,
DVDs and guitars, was a treat. It was great to see the wide age range of
the audience that filled the theatre. WNYC host John Schaefer’s involvement
was another big plus! I look forward to more New York Guitar Festival shows in the future. My fantasy concert would be a double bill with Steve Forbert (whose last NYC concert appearance was at the Bottom Line in 2002) and Ed Gerhard, but I also appreciate the opportunity to experience other artists I might not already be familiar with. Thanks again for all the great work that went into this unique event! John DeAngelis, New York City
