Guitar Giants: Photographs by Hank O’Neal

GUITAR GIANTS, an exhibition of photographs by Hank O’Neal, was on view at Merkin Concert Hall’s Balcony Gallery to run concurrently with the New York Guitar Festival, Jan 14- Feb 3, 2004. The gallery was open before performances and during intermisssion of all concerts. The exhibit was curated by David Spelman, founder/director of the NYGF. All of the photographs in the exhibit are for sale; O'Neal will donate the proceeds of all sales to the Kaufman Center to help grow their educational outreach program that gives free guitars and guitar lessons to public school children.
ABOUT HANK O'NEAL: Hank O'Neal is a jazz concert and record producer, author and photographer. O'Neal's Chiaroscuro Records, founded in 1970, has released recordings by artists like Earl Hines, Mary Lou Williams, Ruby Braff and Joe Venuti; recent releases include Bobby Hackett's Live at the Roosevelt Grill with Vic Dickenson (2003) and Milt Hinton's The Basement Tapes (2003). As a photographer, O'Neal worked closely with Berenice Abbott during the last 19 years of her life and authored a book about her. He also wrote a book about the Farm Service Administration photographers, and has issued several collections of his own photographs.
